Night Journey — The Book
After more than two decades of exploration, Susan kae Grant’s Night Journey has been realized as a 164-page monograph published by MW Editions. Bringing together 89 black-and-white photographs made between 2000 and 2026, the book traces Grant’s exploration of the dream-state, memory, perception, and the unconscious across seven chapters.
Photographs interact across spreads and unfold into longer visual narratives, including triptychs revealed through gatefolds and overlapping images printed on translucent paper. In this way, the book extends the immersive experience of Night Journey into a tactile and intimate form.
Essays by Deborah Willis with Mecca Brooks and Trudy Wilner Stack.

As a lens-based artist exploring dreams, memory & the unconscious, Grant creates portraits and fabricated narratives as limited edition photographs and artists’ books. Her work is collected and exhibited in museums, galleries, offices and private collections.
“Susan kae Grant is an artist whose work is as substantive as it is visually arresting. She has a vigorous studio practice where she continually presses herself to make work that is spring-loaded and surprising. She puts her entire body and mind into the process.”
