Visions of An Insomniac (2007-2009)
Archival Pigment Prints
Conduit Gallery (2009 Solo Exhibition)
For the exhibition Visions of an Insomniac, Grant explores the space between illusion and reality and juxtaposes her images with a commissioned psycho-acoustic audio work created by sound artist Sarah Ruth Alexander. The juxtaposition of sound and imagery forges a relationship between visual and aural perception.
To bring a dimensional experience to the viewer, Grant alters the Conduit Gallery space with site-specific lighting and cast shadows. The image narratives combined with shadowed lighting create a sense of surprise and wonder and deviate from the earlier work by bringing actual shadows and sound to life within the confines of the gallery space.
All images are printed by the artist and available as 47”x35” or 30”x23” limited edition archival pigment prints on Hahnemühle 308 Rag papers. Edition sizes are 9 and 20 respectively. Each print has a hand-torn white border with a de-bossed signature stamp on front and labeled and hand-signed en verso.
Night Journey uses the shadow as metaphor to examine the perceptual and psychological aspects of the dream-state and provides a pictorial access to the unconscious.
