Night Interrogations (2000-2001)
Giclée Iris & Archival Pigment Prints
This group of images represent the first solo exhibition of Night Journey re-created in a new format as framed works on paper for the 2001 solo exhibition at Women & Their Work gallery in Austin, Texas. The images include a selection of early works from the original room-size installation of 4’x8’ images printed on chiffon.
They Lived in Private Worlds
In transitioning from fabric to paper, Grant presents a greater sense of detail within the imagery and the works become more about the memory of a dream and less about the immersive experience of being in the space.
The images created at this time were made from scanned 4x5 negatives and printed as Giclée Iris prints. Images in this series are now printed by the artist and available as 44” x 22” or 22” x 11” limited edition archival pigment prints on Hahnemüle 308 Rag papers. Edition sizes are 9 and 20 respectively. Each print has a hand-torn white border with a de-bossed signature stamp on front and labeled and hand-signed en verso.
Night Journey uses the shadow as metaphor to examine the perceptual and psychological aspects of the dream-state and provides a pictorial access to the unconscious.
